Blossoms

.

pipebandThis prestige competion is held every year at the impressive Balloch Country Park, overlooked by the ancient hilltop Castle. The waters of Loch Lomond lap the trackside and a backdrop of the impressive Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park frames this historic site.

Competitors are athletes from around the world who have performed to the highest level on the Games circuit and have achieved our minimum requirements of ability during the current competition season.

There are eight different disciplines in this event: -

  • Throwing the 16 and 22 pound stones for distance
  • The 16 and 22 pound Scotch hammers for distance
  • The 28 pound ball and chain for distance
  • 56 pound weight for distance
  • Another 56 pound weight is tossed for height over a bar
  • Traditionally, the last event is tossing of the Caber.

Judging these events are former athletes who themselves are former competitors. The ever-astute John Macoll from Kilmore, Argyllshire, judges this competition.
